چکیده

We investigate the contribution of single cells to collective gamma-oscillations in a network of spiking neurons subject to an inhibitory activity control. In contrast to many earlier studies emphasizing a high precision in spike timing, cell ring is rather unreliable in our model. Nonetheless, we qualitatively reproduce many experimental ndings, some of them previously unexplored in modeling studies.

How synchronization helps reduce the influence of noise in neuronal networks

Using tools from stochastic contraction theory, we show how the synchronization of nonlinear dynamical systems helps protect those systems from stochastic pertubations. These results open new perpectives for understanding the functional role of synchronization in neuronal networks.

Measuring the overall performances of decision-making units in the presence of imprecise data

Data envelopment analysis (DEA) is a method for measuring the relative efficiencies of a set of decision-making units (DMUs) that use multiple inputs to produce multiple outputs. In this paper, we study the measurement of DMU performances in DEA in situations where input and/or output values are given as imprecise data. By imprecise data we mean situations where we only know that the actual val...

Cortical layers, rhythms and BOLD signals

This review investigates how laminar fMRI can complement insights into brain function derived from the study of rhythmic neuronal synchronization. Neuronal synchronization in various frequency bands plays an important role in neuronal communication between brain areas, and it does so on the backbone of layer-specific interareal anatomical projections. Feedforward projections originate predomina...

Fast, Bio-Inspired Synchronization of Periodic Events

The synchronization of periodic events is an important and useful primitive for many aspects of ad-hoc wireless sensor networks (WSNs). Achieving and maintaining this, however, is difficult due to the limited energy sources, imprecise clocks, and high failure rates that plague WSNs. A firefly synchronization model by Mirollo and Strogatz [9] has inspired several self-organizing synchronization ...

Impact of Neuronal Properties on Network Coding: Roles of Spike Initiation Dynamics and Robust Synchrony Transfer

Neural networks are more than the sum of their parts, but the properties of those parts are nonetheless important. For instance, neuronal properties affect the degree to which neurons receiving common input will spike synchronously, and whether that synchrony will propagate through the network. Stimulus-evoked synchrony can help or hinder network coding depending on the type of code. In this Pe...
